This has been the hardest time in my life. My husband and I recently have run into financial difficulties like a lot of other people right now. But the worst is the constant, intimidating, and harassing phone calls from creditors at my home and place of work. These extortion tactics have finally slowed down, but it required repeated efforts on our part of both telling them to cease calling and especially putting in writing NO CALLS. After speaking with a debt adviser, I now understand that the law does not allow these phone harassment tactics. They will tape you, so don’t answer their questions since they attempt to get you to make false admissions with trick use of words. Get off the phone---don’t speak, just tell them to stop calling and harassing you! I am contesting all of their demands and I will not give in to their extortion techniques and harassment.

Gloria, I think by law they have to notify you that the conversatiion is being recorded.

I leave my answering machine on & only answer if I know who the caller is. It can be frustrating with all of the ringing but after the collectors asked me to borrow against my life insurance or cash in IRA I had enough. It also did not help when we signed up for debt management! There are laws but the calls start at 8:15am & end at 8:45pm. VERY FRUSTRATING! I look forward to Sundays & holidays. Good luck to all in this situation!
