A few days ago my phone rang. I picked it up and this man said are you Jo McKinley. I immediately looked at my caller ID and noticed that the call said from Las Vegas.
He said you filled out a sweepstakes application at Walmart in Las Vegas,. I said no. He then mentioned my full name, my husbands, knew our address, and of course our phone number. He also knew that we had recently used our credit cards in Las Vegas.
I knew this was a frudulant call, so I continued letting him do most of the talking..
He asked if I had a Western Union near by. I said no. He then said he would have someone come to my door and I should use my credit card or write a check to a Betty Knight for $485.00. I said "for what" he said "that I had won $115.000. " Well by then I hung up the phone and he just kept calling back. I then took the phone off the receiver.
I tried to phone the Simi Valley Police Dept., but kept being put on hold. A few
minutes later I went up to the Police Dept. The officer at the front desk told me that he couldnt do anything about it. He gave me the phone number to call the Ventura FBI.
I phoned them for several times for two days and finally someone returned my phone call. That Officer told me also that even though I had a phone number in Las Vegas to reach this fellow, there was nothing he could do about it. He stated that the only time they check out a number is if it is an act of terrorism.
I couldn't believe this..........I always hear on the news and read in the newspapers to report things such typeof fraudes and no one would even take a report.
My question to you is: Who do we report these types of fradulant calls to?
Thank you, Jo Mckinley
